DeLonghi Rialto 4500 Espresso Machine

Well I gotta say, I’m not crazy about this machine. The plastic construction overall and the poor fit of certain critical detachable parts makes me think that there has to be a better selection for the money. This machine is fairly popular, probably because they sell them through Starbucks, but you can definitely get more for your money with a different machine.

Personally, when I think super-automatic, I think more than 1 touch, hands off operation. Sure the Rialto 4500 qualifies as a super automatic. It has dual boilers. It grinds, packs and empties. But I also expect a  machine that I don’t have to babysit or tweak constantly.

Many users have reported problems with the cheap plastic milk pitcher, so I know its not just me. The thing doesn’t fit right and it often doesn’t dispense as it should because there are O rings that get fouled up after some use. They are easy to replace, but its a hassle I don’t need from a $1,000 super automatic espresso machine.

I find that the temperature of the espresso this machine makes seems low to me. Even when adjusting the heat setting, it just never seems hot enough for my tastes. Again, this is pretty basic stuff that much cheaper semi-automatic machines have no problem with.

For the money, there are far better machines available.  Check out some of our other posts under the Espresso Machine Reviews category for additional choices.
